When you are hunting near a food source in the afternoon you may have deer lingering at the food plot when darkness falls. Usually the does and small bucks you are not interested in will be hanging around. The problem at this point is, how do you get out of your tree without spooking these deer.
Even though it may only be does or small bucks in the food plot you don’t want them alerting other deer of your location. A smart doe will be looking up for you the next time she returns. If she spots you, she’ll snort and alert other deer nearby, including any trophy buck that may be thinking of entering the field.
If this is the case you may just wait until the deer leave the food plot which can be up to an hour then you have the task of leaving the stand in the dark. If they seem to linger you may just have to spook them when you get out of your stand.
A better alternative is to place your stand along areas where the deer travel going to and from the food plot. In this case the deer do not linger near your stand yet you get the opportunity to spot them both coming and going. Whenever you are ready to leave if you are careful you will be less likely to spook feeding deer.
At Buyritescopes.com we recommend checking out the food plot before you head for your tree stand, this way you can spot deer before they spot you. Happy hunting and bring home a trophy.
