Most hunters know scents are an important part of your hunting strategy. When you set up your tree stand you should keep the prevailing wind in your area in mind. If the prevailing wind is from the southwest then you should set your stand so the scent is blowing away from your stand and the direction from which you think the deer will come.
Serious hunters will have more than one stand ready incase the wind shifts and is not in your favor you can move to another stand that has been set to reflect a different wind direction.
Another popular way to avoid deer picking up your sent is to use a scent-eliminating soap and shampoo before every hunt, and wear clothing that has been washed in a scent-eliminating detergent. You should also avoid touching trees and limbs especially near your tree stand.
