vx3_3_5-10x40-resized.jpgPeople have used iron sights ontheir rifles for years and had success using them. However the magnification power of riflescopes allow you to accurately sight in you target at distances farther than you can accurately use your iron sight.

Once you have decided to purchase a rifle scope you must decide if you want a fixed power or a variable power scope. The fixed power scope is like using a magnifying glass. It brings your target in closer at a fixed magnification. A variable power scope acts like a zoom lens on a camera. It allows you to adjust the magnification of the scope making it much more versitile.

When choosing a scope you need to decide the maximum range you want to shoot. If you are target shooting a fixed power scope may suit your needs. If you are a game humter a variable power scope may best suit your needs. When choosing the magnification keep in mind a scope with 7x magnification allows you to shoot up to 100 yards, a 9x magnification allows you to shoot up to 200 yards, and a 12x-14x allows you to shoot over 200 yards away.

Decide the type of game you intend to hunt. Typically a 3x-9x scope works well for hunting whitetail deer while a 4x-12x scope would work best for hunting mule deer. If you plan to hunt squirrels in the timber a fixed 4x scope would work best for you.

Once you have determined the average distance you plan to make the majority of your shots you are ready to choose the magnification. If you have too powerful scope you will limit your field of view for your shooting distance.

Buyritescopes.com offers a wide selection of scopes for all of your shooting needs. Whether you are looking for fixed power or variable power scopes check out Buyritescopes.com for the best prices on the web.

vx2_4-12x50.jpgYou found the scope you want, and it will be perfect with your rifle once it is mounted. If you haven’t mounted a scope before it can be an intimidating project. Mounting a rifle scope does not have to be a difficult project if you follow a few simple steps.

First you want to make sure your scope is well suited for the rifle you intend to mount it on. If you are unsure whether your scope will work well with the rifle you intend to use it with check with manufacturer of the scope to see which rifle it is best suited to.

Once you have determined your scope and rifle will work well together locate the mounting holes on the rifle. You will find four, six, or eight threaded holes near the cartridge receiving chamber on the top of the rifle. These are the mounting holes.

You will need a mounting system that is designed for your rifle barrel. Most manufacturers offer choices of mounts. You will need to choose the mount that works best for you although the rail attachment system is a commonly used mount and is easily installed.

Once you are ready to install the scope mount be sure to unload and secure the weapon.

Next you will need to attach the scope mount to the barrel of the rifle using the setscrews that came with the mount. Be sure that the area is clean and clear of dust or other contaminants. Tighten these screws as tightly as possible. Some mounting systems will offer an epoxy mixture you can use to coat the setscrews to prevent movement.

Finally you will slide the scope onto the mount or place the scope into the mounting clamps and fasten according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Avoid overtightening the setscrews. Overtightening can strip the screw threads and will provide an unstable platform for the scope.

Who Makes Quality Scopes?

December 20, 2008

vx2_4-12x40_ao.jpgAre you  looking to buy yourself a quality riflescope but you don’t want to pay too much for it? First you need to know who makes quality scopes. The top brands on the market today are Burris, Nikon, and Leupold.

Next you need to determine what game you will be hunting and what type of gun you will be shooting in order to decide which scope will best suit your needs.

The best way to find out what rifle scope is right for you is by knowing the basic anatomy of a rifle scope and how it works. Once you grasp the basic knowledge of scopes you’ll be able to maike a more informed choice of what scope to buy.

Rifle scopes work by magnifying an image and by placing your eye on the same optic plane as your target. Since magnification works by bending light rays via a number of lenses within the scope, the higher the power of magnification, the longer the scope. In other words, low powered rifle scopes are shorter and contain smaller lenses.

The similarities that all riflescopes share include a reticule or crosshair, a dot, a post or similar markings to help aligh the device with the target. A reticle or crosshair is a shape, usually a “+” shape, superimposed on an target to aid with the alighment of the device. Some reticles use dots to mark the center of field of view or a post or similar markings to help view and centre the image through the scope. Rifle scopes also work to eliminate the problems associated with open sights, and allow for precise shooting.

A rifle scope contains two tubes, one within the other. The inner tubes refracts light for magnification purposes, while the outer tube protects the inner tube and provides a mount for the three of the parts found in rifle scopes. All riflescopes contain about the same ten or so parts.

Even though all scopes contain similar parts the construction and quality varies between scopes and manufacturers. Buyritescopes.com believes Leupold provides quality durable scopes that out perform the others in their price range.

leupold-vx-iii-boone-crockett-biggame-deer.jpgOnce the rut ends does not mean hunting for big bucks is over. The big bucks are worn down after all of the energy they have expended courting and fighting for does. They have lost as much as 25 percent of their body weight during their courting and now they are interested in feeding and getting ready for survival during the long winter months.

You can still bring home a trophy buck if you concentrate on the buck’s food plots which are often near his bedding area. Researchers tell us the white tail’s metabolism slows down to conserve energy in the cold winter weather and they don’t like to travel far from their bedding area.

If you have food sources planted for deer on managed lands it gives you a tremendous advantage when looking for that big buck. Regardless if your food source is planted or natural habitat you want to set your treestand in an area that will funnel the deer from their food source to their bedding area.

Buyritescopes.com believes it’s never too late to have a good hunt as long as you understand the movements of the deer and you  think like a deer.

December 3, 2008

vx3_3_5-10x40-resized.jpgThere are many riflescopes on the market today, not to mention scopes for hand guns and bows. It can certainly be helpful to read reviews as well familarize yourself with the workings of a scope.

Let’s first consider the Tasco scope. The Tasco company is no longer in business so be aware there is no warranty available for the scopes that are still on the market. Tasco did produce a fine scope reasonably priced, but if you have problems with the scope your are on your own for repairs.

Simmons rifle scopes are popular scopes among hunters and their Master Series seems to be a favorite. Simmons has made improvements on their Master Series scopes and provides features found in higher priced scopes.

Leupold can offer this type of warranty because they make a rugged, dependable, and accurate scope ready for the out doors. Unlike many other manufacturers this warranty doesn’t have a time limit and you don’t have to provide a warranty card. In addition, you don’t have to be the original owner, as required with most other major scope manufacturers. When it comes to customer service, it is hard to top Leupold.

Bushnell also offers a very good scope. The Elite 4200 has received high remarks from hunters around the country.  Bushnell features a bright clear image close in quality to the Leupold. They also Rainguard to prevent fogging which can be a valuable feature in the field.

Sightron also produces a fine line of scopes as well. The Sightron is a good product with precise, repeatable adjustment that perform very well in the field. This product also freatures excellent resolution with detail that can be easily seen even in low light situations.
