61460-rx-ii-rangefinder-mossy-oad.jpgLike so many other things in life, once we figure out the rules of the game; the game changes. So it is with deer hunting in Missouri. At Buyritescopes.com we recommend before you head to the woods in Missouri it would be a good idea to review the changes made in Missouri’s Deer Hunting Regulations.

The following is from the Missouri Department of Conservation:

To maintain healthy populations of deer and to provide quality and varied hunting opportunities statewide, conservation area managers and biologists carefully evaluate the effects of deer hunting on all areas owned or managed by the Conservation Department.

There are six types of regulations designed to limit doe harvest at various levels and provide different types of hunting. Carefully check the area deer hunting regulations to find the type of hunt you prefer.

  1. Statewide deer seasons and limits apply.
  2. Only archery methods may be used. Deer hunting with firearms is prohibited. All other statewide deer seasons and limits apply.
  3. Only archery and muzzleloading methods may be used. All other statewide deer seasons and limits apply.
  4. Archery and firearms deer hunting is permitted for antlered or antlerless deer on the following permits only: Archer’s Hunting Permit, Firearms Any-Deer Hunting Permit, and Youth Deer and Turkey Hunting Permit. 57950-vx-3_45-14x50-duplex-matte.jpgChronic wasting disease is a fatal neurological disease found in deer, elk and moose. It belongs to a family of diseases known as transmissible spongiform encephalopathies or prion diseases. The disease attacks the brains of infected deer, elk and moose, causing the animals to become emaciated, display abnormal behavior and incoordination, and eventually die.

Chronic wasting disease occurs in free-ranging and captive members of the deer family in several places in North America.

To date, ongoing investigations by state and federal public health officials have shown no causal relationship between CWD and human health problems. However hunters should take simple precautions when handling deer, elk, or moose carcasses in areas where CWD is known to occur.

Simple Precautions Advised

  • Do not shoot, handle or consume any animal that appears sick; contact the Division of Wildlife in Fort Collins at (970) 472-4300 if you see or harvest an animal that appears sick.
  • Wear rubber gloves when field dressing and processing animals.
  • Bone out the meat from your animal.
  • Minimize the handling of brain and spinal tissues, and wash hands and instruments thoroughly after field-dressing.
  • Wash hands and instruments thoroughly after field dressing is completed.
  • Avoid consuming brain, spinal cord, eyes, spleen, tonsils, pancreas and lymph nodes of harvested animals. Normal field dressing, coupled with boning out a carcass, will remove most, if not all, of these body parts. Cutting away all fatty tissue will remove remaining lymph nodes.
  • Do not consume meat or organs from animals known to be infected with CWD.
  • Knives, saws and cutting table surfaces can be disinfected by soaking in a solution of 50 percent unscented household bleach and 50 percent water for an hour. Afterward, allow them to air dry.

At Buyritescopes.com we wish you a happy, safe, and successful hunt.

vx2_4-12x40_ao.jpgCreek crossings are great for hunting white tail deer. You can find an abundance of deer sign. But before you set up your stand take a good look around and make sure your creek with all of the deer sign is not winding through a ravine or narrow valley. It is definitely tempting to set up where you see the deer sign, but the wind is sure to be your enemy.

In ravines and narrow valleys the wind does not blow straight through as it does when crossing a creek in open country or slightly sloping timber. In ravines and narrow valleys the wind swirls through filling the entire ravine with your human sent. It is pretty much impossible to sit in a stand for any length of time without  filling the entire area with your sent and warning any prospective deer of your presence.

Don’t be fooled with how good a creek crossing looks. When it is out of the direct flow of wind you will be sending out your calling card in the form of human sent.

At Buyritescopes.com some of our favorite hunting spots are near creek crossings with a lot of deer sign, but we always make sure we place our stands so the wind is our friend not our foe.

leupold-8x32-golden-ring-hd-binocular.pngRifle mounted scopes are one of the best tools a hunter can use to determine if a target is qualified to take such as a buck deer or a bull elk when you are shooting at a substantial distance. This, of course, applies to when the hunter is on target. leupold-8x32-golden-ring-hd-binocular.png

One thing the hunter should avoid is using the scope to scan the terrain for a suitable target. It is never safe to use a rifle scope to scan woods or for that matter fields in order to see what is out there. The better solution for a responsible and safe hunter is to use binoculars or a spotting scope to scan and locate a potential target then use the riflescope to take the best ethical shot.

Binoculars, spotting scopes, and riflescopes of high quality are all available at reasonable prices now days. Buyritescopes.com has a great selection of binoculars and scopes with the best prices around.

When I think of all the different places I have hunted the places that stand out in my memory the most are the areas that have been designated as Wilderness Areas.  Wilderness areas are in most every state and are usually in a national forest. Without national forest our country’s Wilderness Areas would slowly dwindle away. These Wildreness areas are able to maintain their natural balance with nature with minimal interference from man. The lack of motor vehicles in Wilderness Areas preserves the quiet solitude of nature itself.

When hunting Wilderness Areas you are able to get to know the land and the effects of nature on the animals and the land. The hunter is dependent on his own abilities with the help of a a compass or maybe a GPS. There are no road signs or coffee shops from where to gather information from the locals. It’s the hunter and nature alone, and when you come away with that big buck you have the feeling of accomplishment.

At Buyritescopes.com we love hunting the Wilderness Areas and appreciate earlier generations having the forethought to preserve them. We believe it is our responsibility to help maintain the integrity of the natural Wilderness Areas for future hunters and generations to come.

There are many kinds of hunting scopes out in the market today. But the critical criteria for choosing them would be their clarity and durability. You would not want your scope to break or crack while you are in the middle of a chase, nor would you want it to fog up when you are on the trail.

Early Season Deer Hunting

November 11, 2008

leupold-vx-iii-boone-crockett-biggame-deer.jpgWhen you are hunting early season, for mature bucks it is all about food and water. True fights are rare, and breeding is still a ways off. Simply put, the big boys are still enjoying the peaceful and lazy life they led all summer long.

To consistently get to the bucks that aren’t moving much yet, you must determine their specific patterns. The best places to start hunting is where the trails enter food sources or water holes.

Early in the season before he realizes we are out there you have a fairly decent chance spotting a buck near his food plot or water hole. Once he is on to the hunting season you will have a much less likely chance of spotting the mature bucks.

Target three mature bucks for early season, the lull, and post rut. That wayd you can shift between the three, keeping them off guard. Buyritescopes.com make the most of early season hunting by scouting favorite food plots and water holes before opening day. Be ready to catch that big buck off guard.

vx2_3-9x50.jpgEvery true hunter knows there’s a satisfaction in bringing home your own table-fare through hunting. It’s something that’s hard to explain to a non-hunter. It’s a multifaceted satisfaction based on many variables, such as: the joy of having watched the animal in its natural habitat, the reward of ethically harvesting game, and the peace-of-mind in knowing how the animal has been handled from treestand to table. Setting the table with the game I’ve acquired provides a pleasure which in some way actually enhances the taset of the meat.

At Buyritescopes.com we understand the thrill and satisfaction of bringing home your own game. Inorder to make your job easier we offer the best American made riflescopes you will find for your money.
