vx3_4_5-14x40_lr-resize.jpgOnce you have have found the perfect riflescope and made your purchase you are ready to mount the scope. Be sure to mount your scope using recommended manufacturer’s mounts. But you are not ready to hunt yet, you need to sight in the scope to get the full benefit while hunting.

In addition to your rifle, scope, ammunition, and targets you should use a quality bore sighter.

To sight in your scope find a place suitable for practice shooting and set up a target at a distance of 100 yards.

Making sure the rifle is not loaded and the breech is open, install the boresighter into the muzzle of the rifle barrel according to the manufacturers instructions.

Look through the scope as if you are going to shoot. Aline the crosshairs of the scope with the crosshairs of the bore sighter. Adjust the elevation up or down, and the windage right to left in order to line up both the horizontal and vertical crosshairs.

Remove the bore sighter from the rifle’s muzzle and load one round into the rifle. Aim at the target you set up at 100 yards and fire one round. Check your target and make adjustments by repeating the previous steps until you are able to fire a round and hit the target with accuracy. (Note using quality binoculars can make the target checking process faster and easier)

If you continue to have difficulty hitting the target move the target closer in 25 yard increments until you can hit it consistantly accurately. Once you are shooting confidently at that range you can begin to move the target away in 25 yard increments and continue.

Once you are shooting consistant shots use rounds of several different brands of ammunition. When you have found the ammunition that gives you the tighest grouping of shots, that is the ammunition you will want to continue to use with that rifle.

Fire rounds of the ammunition you chose at the target. Adjust the elevation so the shots hit the target approximately 3 inches above the bullseye. Adjust the windage so the shots are dead on center. Your scope and rifle are now sighted in.

Buyritescopes.com wishes you the best luck and the biggest buck while hunting.

vx3_3_5-10x40-resized.jpgPeople have used iron sights ontheir rifles for years and had success using them. However the magnification power of riflescopes allow you to accurately sight in you target at distances farther than you can accurately use your iron sight.

Once you have decided to purchase a rifle scope you must decide if you want a fixed power or a variable power scope. The fixed power scope is like using a magnifying glass. It brings your target in closer at a fixed magnification. A variable power scope acts like a zoom lens on a camera. It allows you to adjust the magnification of the scope making it much more versitile.

When choosing a scope you need to decide the maximum range you want to shoot. If you are target shooting a fixed power scope may suit your needs. If you are a game humter a variable power scope may best suit your needs. When choosing the magnification keep in mind a scope with 7x magnification allows you to shoot up to 100 yards, a 9x magnification allows you to shoot up to 200 yards, and a 12x-14x allows you to shoot over 200 yards away.

Decide the type of game you intend to hunt. Typically a 3x-9x scope works well for hunting whitetail deer while a 4x-12x scope would work best for hunting mule deer. If you plan to hunt squirrels in the timber a fixed 4x scope would work best for you.

Once you have determined the average distance you plan to make the majority of your shots you are ready to choose the magnification. If you have too powerful scope you will limit your field of view for your shooting distance.

Buyritescopes.com offers a wide selection of scopes for all of your shooting needs. Whether you are looking for fixed power or variable power scopes check out Buyritescopes.com for the best prices on the web.

leupold-vx-iii-boone-crockett-biggame-deer.jpgOnce the rut ends does not mean hunting for big bucks is over. The big bucks are worn down after all of the energy they have expended courting and fighting for does. They have lost as much as 25 percent of their body weight during their courting and now they are interested in feeding and getting ready for survival during the long winter months.

You can still bring home a trophy buck if you concentrate on the buck’s food plots which are often near his bedding area. Researchers tell us the white tail’s metabolism slows down to conserve energy in the cold winter weather and they don’t like to travel far from their bedding area.

If you have food sources planted for deer on managed lands it gives you a tremendous advantage when looking for that big buck. Regardless if your food source is planted or natural habitat you want to set your treestand in an area that will funnel the deer from their food source to their bedding area.

Buyritescopes.com believes it’s never too late to have a good hunt as long as you understand the movements of the deer and you  think like a deer.

Riflescope Reviews

December 3, 2008

vx3_3_5-10x40-resized.jpgThere are many riflescopes on the market today, not to mention scopes for hand guns and bows. It is no wonder there is confusion about which scope to buy and how much should you spend. Many scopes are designed for a specific type of hunting while others offer more versality. It can certainly be helpful to read reviews as well familarize yourself with the workings of a scope.

Let’s first consider the Tasco scope. The Tasco company is no longer in business so be aware there is no warranty available for the scopes that are still on the market. Tasco did produce a fine scope reasonably priced, but if you have problems with the scope your are on your own for repairs.

Simmons rifle scopes are popular scopes among hunters and their Master Series seems to be a favorite. Simmons has made improvements on their Master Series scopes and provides features found in higher priced scopes.

Leupold has combined quality and great customer service to give you a scope that is backed by their full lifetime warranty. Leupold can offer this type of warranty because they make a rugged, dependable, and accurate scope ready for the out doors. Unlike many other manufacturers this warranty doesn’t have a time limit and you don’t have to provide a warranty card. In addition, you don’t have to be the original owner, as required with most other major scope manufacturers. When it comes to customer service, it is hard to top Leupold.

Bushnell also offers a very good scope. The Elite 4200 has received high remarks from hunters around the country.  Bushnell features a bright clear image close in quality to the Leupold. They also Rainguard to prevent fogging which can be a valuable feature in the field.

Sightron also produces a fine line of scopes as well. The Sightron is a good product with precise, repeatable adjustment that perform very well in the field. This product also freatures excellent resolution with detail that can be easily seen even in low light situations.

Eventhough there are several good scopes on the market Buyritescopes.com believes Leupold offers the clearest image in low-light situations allowing you to hunt from dawn to dusk and still get a crystal clear image of your target allowing you to make a clean ethical shot.

57950-vx-3_45-14x50-duplex-matte.jpgChronic wasting disease is a fatal neurological disease found in deer, elk and moose. It belongs to a family of diseases known as transmissible spongiform encephalopathies or prion diseases. The disease attacks the brains of infected deer, elk and moose, causing the animals to become emaciated, display abnormal behavior and incoordination, and eventually die.

Chronic wasting disease occurs in free-ranging and captive members of the deer family in several places in North America.

To date, ongoing investigations by state and federal public health officials have shown no causal relationship between CWD and human health problems. However hunters should take simple precautions when handling deer, elk, or moose carcasses in areas where CWD is known to occur.

Simple Precautions Advised

  • Do not shoot, handle or consume any animal that appears sick; contact the Division of Wildlife in Fort Collins at (970) 472-4300 if you see or harvest an animal that appears sick.
  • Wear rubber gloves when field dressing and processing animals.
  • Bone out the meat from your animal.
  • Minimize the handling of brain and spinal tissues, and wash hands and instruments thoroughly after field-dressing.
  • Wash hands and instruments thoroughly after field dressing is completed.
  • Avoid consuming brain, spinal cord, eyes, spleen, tonsils, pancreas and lymph nodes of harvested animals. Normal field dressing, coupled with boning out a carcass, will remove most, if not all, of these body parts. Cutting away all fatty tissue will remove remaining lymph nodes.
  • Do not consume meat or organs from animals known to be infected with CWD.
  • Knives, saws and cutting table surfaces can be disinfected by soaking in a solution of 50 percent unscented household bleach and 50 percent water for an hour. Afterward, allow them to air dry.

At Buyritescopes.com we wish you a happy, safe, and successful hunt.

vx2_4-12x40_ao.jpgCreek crossings are great for hunting white tail deer. You can find an abundance of deer sign. But before you set up your stand take a good look around and make sure your creek with all of the deer sign is not winding through a ravine or narrow valley. It is definitely tempting to set up where you see the deer sign, but the wind is sure to be your enemy.

In ravines and narrow valleys the wind does not blow straight through as it does when crossing a creek in open country or slightly sloping timber. In ravines and narrow valleys the wind swirls through filling the entire ravine with your human sent. It is pretty much impossible to sit in a stand for any length of time without  filling the entire area with your sent and warning any prospective deer of your presence.

Don’t be fooled with how good a creek crossing looks. When it is out of the direct flow of wind you will be sending out your calling card in the form of human sent.

At Buyritescopes.com some of our favorite hunting spots are near creek crossings with a lot of deer sign, but we always make sure we place our stands so the wind is our friend not our foe.

When I think of all the different places I have hunted the places that stand out in my memory the most are the areas that have been designated as Wilderness Areas.  Wilderness areas are in most every state and are usually in a national forest. Without national forest our country’s Wilderness Areas would slowly dwindle away. These Wildreness areas are able to maintain their natural balance with nature with minimal interference from man. The lack of motor vehicles in Wilderness Areas preserves the quiet solitude of nature itself.

When hunting Wilderness Areas you are able to get to know the land and the effects of nature on the animals and the land. The hunter is dependent on his own abilities with the help of a a compass or maybe a GPS. There are no road signs or coffee shops from where to gather information from the locals. It’s the hunter and nature alone, and when you come away with that big buck you have the feeling of accomplishment.

At Buyritescopes.com we love hunting the Wilderness Areas and appreciate earlier generations having the forethought to preserve them. We believe it is our responsibility to help maintain the integrity of the natural Wilderness Areas for future hunters and generations to come.

Hunting scopes

The thrill of the hunt, that is what draws many men to this time honored sport. The basic equipment needed to ensure a successful hunt includes a reliable rifle and a sharp hunting scope. The rest is up to pure instinct and guts.

There are many kinds of hunting scopes out in the market today. But the critical criteria for choosing them would be their clarity and durability. You would not want your scope to break or crack while you are in the middle of a chase, nor would you want it to fog up when you are on the trail.
